Introducing Surplus Produx Vespa Scuta (otherwise known as Sid and Doris), our two Romano-British ‘figureheads’ for the Archaeology Information Point at the Hub. Sid and Doris were painted by Judy and Hilary and cut out by the Carnival Club. A big thank you for helping to add life and colour to the entrance of our Info point at Ipplepen Methodist Church!
Congratulations to our local volunteers Mary Terry, Hilary Down and Judy Dewhirst who won FIRST PRIZE for best stall at Ipplepen’s 125th village show yesterday! The stall raised awareness of our excavation and Mary’s grandson Robbie said it was his ‘best day ever!’. Huge thank you to Mary, Hilary, Judy and Robbie for all their hard work and support for our excavation.
We took out the part of an amphora yesterday which was found on Tuesday by Sang. Danielle and John had to excavate it very carefully but managed to take it out all in one piece so its now been sent off to be cleaned and conserved. It’ll be exciting to see it when its all been cleaned up!
Sunday was wet and windy but spirits weren’t dampened and the students and volunteers ploughed on. We extended trench 9 to continue excavating the features in the geophysics survey and continued work in trenches 7 and 8, despite the weather!
