“Salve! My name is Matthew Le Sueur and I am a second year archaeology student at Exeter University. Sadly due to unforeseen events I was unable to complete an archaeological dig in Romania last year, so I decided to complete my module by volunteering for a more local excavation in Ipplepen. It is a decision for which I am pleased to say I have no regrets making, even with the poor British weather. There is a great opportunity with this site; an opportunity not just to learn, but also to put into context the relationship between the Romans and the indigenous population in the SouthWest. It has also been a rewarding experience to see the general interest and excitement this site has generated with the local community during my hours working at our information point at the Hub. I look forward immensely to putting my name down on the volunteers list again next year.”
